... Both Phil & Kaja are the writers. Phil told me over a year ago that the Castle arc wasn't intended to be so long, but that's where the writing lead. I do hope we get some Higgs origins soon. Well, that's what they get for not plotting the story on paper. I had read recently that they have only the main story arcs in their heads, no details on paper. That being said, I think it has worked well for them, other than spending volumes 8, 9,& 10 finding ways to keep Agatha, Gil, and Tarvek from actually accomplishing anything with the Castle (we did learn other things though). Agatha doesn't reach the Library she was told to start from until Volume 11. The Jaegers, for example, weren't part of the original story idea but they were expanded as they were a big hit with the fans. And without the "unplotted" Jaegers, where would all of us be right now? Back to the page/panel : This is a great image. This is the entrance of the new Ruler of Europa, complete with her "trophies" of Wulfenbach (Gil's walking stick), the Storm King (his Smoke Knight body guard), and Castle Heterodyne (the "Devil Dog" a.k.a. FSMADD). Yes, one probably should tremble before her. With or without the Doom Bell.

Appart from the disease arc GG flows fairly well, although slowly at 3 pages a week which can be infuriating for addicts. The disease arc should have been cut drasticly, the first switch should have worked and the entire issue been resolved then and there. After that it would have been off to the library for the repair list. You could still have almost exactly the same material with Zola lurking in the shadows and the different parts of the castle fighting each other while the gang procedes to patch things up. You could even have the great movement chamber and mommy's lab without major editing and making some repairs would have given a better sense of progress through book 9 & 10. That said the delays are hardly as annoying when you read the books as they were in the original online publication. Agatha herself made a fairly accurate summation of reader response to shutting down the castle and causing the entire reboot arc: www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20091209

Bah! I'm in no hurry for the ride to end (although I am anticipating the imminent change of scenery.) As long as Phil & Kaja want to wander down side roads, I'll ride along. They're a good judge of what'll amuse me anyhow.
(If they really wanted the series to hurry along toward its end, they'd just have Higgs punch Agatha in just the right way to dislodge the Other. Yes, I know that's not possible, but Higgs doesn't seem limited by what's possible, now does he?)
Higgs: "It's all in how you hit 'em, not how hard." Krosp: "I really would've appreciated that a lot more if you'd just done it about 180 pages ago." Othar: "Spoilsport."

So am I. Still, it might not yet be the Doom Bell, if that event is to be a double page spread.
It does take patience to follow this story, three pages a week, but it's worth it, when all is said and done.
