Since Proboards force-upgraded the forum to version 5, everything broke as they scrapped the old way of editing how the forum looks (using codes in the headers and footers). The new system went to some fancy integrated marketing approach where you have plugins, themes and what-not from an options store. Once you have so many features used, you have to purchase more slots... very sneaky.
That aside, my main issue is that all the cool stuff I used to have that made the forum look good no longer works, and a lot of it has no replacements. However, I am going to try and use what plugins, themes and options that they do have available for free to try and improve the forum and get it looking smart again.
The entire back-end of the site has now changed into some sort of "helpful" admin experience, which actually just makes it all confusing. You probably noticed this when your accounts from other proboards got linked, or this one got upgraded to a 'global' one. Trust me, it's even worse for admins.
However, I'm going to persevere and try to improve things a little, so keep a lookout for new features etc. I'll try and explain anything in this thread.
If there is a feature you really want; I think it will work for the benefit of the forum; and we can find a free plugin for it: then I'll try and add it. Just leave a post titled 'Suggestion' in this thread.

New mini-profile options
The mini-profile is the bit at the left-side of your posts with your avatar, name, rank etc. We have added the ability to show a picture background or colour, and change the name text colour and other text colour.
Go into your profile area (the menu icon currently marked dogtags) and click the 'Edit Profile' button, then go to the 'Personal Information' tab. At the bottom you'll see new 'Mini-Profile' options and a mock-up picture of what your mini-profile will look like.
If you're adding a background picture then you need to use the full URL for wherever the picture is hosted. Try not to use massive pictures or linking to other people's websites. You can always create an account at somewhere like photobucket, or upload a picture to IMGUR etc.
Have fun!

You're awesome!!
I will say that I like that the Quick Reply box now has these options that used to only be in the normal reply section.

Yes, so do I. I also love the new icons at the top, which have a wonderful steampunk feel.
While you're altering the site, could I please make a request? I'm not so young, and white text on a dark background is hard on my old eyes. Is there any way I can alter the way I view the site without messing it up for other people?

Love it also! Esp the icons at the top! But I'm with vonluftschiff, it's harder for me to read the white on dark background. If there was a way for me to change it for myself, so that it doesn't interfere with others viewing pleasure, that be great!
And keep up the good work!

I've got to revamp the theme which is the bit that deals with the colours. At the moment we only have the one theme. I'll probably make it a two-birds-one-stone thing by making a 'light' and a 'dark' version - that way you can switch to whichever one you want.

Still bashing at it - the weird colours of some things is because you can't tell what the setting changes otherwise

Yah, tenks vor de new site format. Goot dot de old button dot sed Logout for ven hyu logged in iz gone. One comment. I don't see any labels next to the buttons when I hover over them, so I don't know which button is which. Mind you, I am using a Linux laptop with the Chromium web browser, so this could be my problem. Should be back home on Saturday so I can try it with my proper computer.

I'm also using Linux and Chromium. I'm not seeing the labels either, but I am seeing a link come up at bottom left of the browser window, so I can tell which button is which.
I love the new light-coloured, easy-to-read layout, but there's just one glitch for me, which I'm not sure if anyone else is seeing. The "news" bar at the top, which is supposed to marquee across the screen, doesn't; the text stays on the left, and several pieces of text end up superimposed on one another, making them all unreadable. Some of them appear to be upside down.

I replaced the marquee option with the scroll option - the text should replace itself not stack up. It's a bit rubbish though anyway - if I can find a nicer one I'll replace it completely. I don't think we had tooltips since v5 either but I may have seen a plugin that puts them back.

Still got the same problem, I'm afraid. It may well be my browser. Last time I updated Ubuntu, it went a bit wrong in the middle, and consequently I can't download anything, including browser updates. (If I really need a download, I have to do it on the laptop.) Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

Collapsible Categories - I have managed to restore the collapsing categories we used to have. Clicking the title bar of the category will expand or collapse it. This should be remembered for next time (may be affected by cookies not being allowed in your browser). By default only the Barracks and Privvies are open by default.
